DANCE ENTRY
The Rene Myrtle Premier Award
Dancers aged 13 years and over will be invited to perform for this award by the Adjudicator on the basis of their stage work throughout the Festival (to include all styles). Dancers will be notified when they have been selected, but may dance only once. Style of dance to be decided by the Adjudicator and may not be substituted. A prize of £100 is given to the winner of this section.
The Arts Educational Award
A place on the Arts Educational Musical Theatre Summer School one-week course will be awarded to the performer aged 15 years and over who most excels in this genre, as selected by the adjudicator.The Stella
Mason Memorial Award
Dancers aged 12 and under will be invited to perform for this award by the Adjudicator on the basis of their stage work throughout the Festival (to include all styles). They will be notified when they have been selected, but may dance only once. Style of dance to be decided by the Adjudicator and may not be substituted. A prize of £50 is given to the winner of this section.

Dance Section Regulations
1 Classes are for amateurs and students who do not derive the major part of their income from the teaching or performance of dance.
2 Competitors attending full-time vocational dance training are not eligible to enter.
3 No entry can be accepted without payment. Entry procedure is changing. Please see website for further details.
4 Age to be taken as at 31 August 2024.
5 Time limits for each class must be strictly observed. The Adjudicator has the right to stop performances which exceed the time limit.
6 No pointe work is allowed below 12 years of age.
7 Costumes are optional throughout.
8 A central music system is provided. Dancers should provide their own recorded CDs, clearly labelled. Only one dance to be recorded on each CD, with no further tracks following. A back-up recording, preferably in a different medium, is required in the event of technical problems. CDs are to be given to the steward at least 15 minutes before commencement of the section.
9 The Festival accepts no liability for the infringement of copyright, recording or performing rights arising out of any competitor’s accompaniment, choreography or performance. Teachers and choreographers using music created from commercial recordings are advised that they are responsible for seeking permission to re-record from the recording companies concerned.
10 Dances set by an examining board for use in its syllabus may not be used.
11 Dances may not be re-started except in Baby Classes D1, D2, D3, D4 and D5, or
if the accompaniment breaks down, or at the Adjudicator’s discretion.
12 In Duet, Trio/Quartet or Group classes, the eldest competitor’s age determines which class the group enters.
13 In Duet, Trio or Quartet classes more than once entry is permitted provided the style of dance is different. (Modern and Lyrical are classed as different styles.)
14 In Group classes a maximum of three entries is permitted provided the style
of dance is different. (Modern and Lyrical are classed as different styles.)
15 Photography, filming and recording of performances is strictly prohibited.
16 Choreography D48 and D49: dance may be a Solo (2 minutes), Duet or Trio (3 minutes) or Small Group (4 minutes). Costume is optional. Students may submit a brief resumé indicating the costumes and setting they would use in actual performance. This should be submitted on the first day of the Festival.
17 Late arrivals will be allowed to dance only if time permits and at the organiser’s discretion, and will be marked but not placed. Note that classes may start up to 20 minutes early.
18 The stage and wings are out of bounds except to competitors about to perform and to authorised persons: e.g. one assistant from each school accompanying children under 7, and for older performers an assistant to help with wardrobe or props.
19 Classes may be amalgamated or split depending on the number of entries.
